Hamsters USA Giving Back to the Children at LifeScape
August 26, 2016
For the past 11 years, my motorcycle group Hamsters USA has held an annual charity event to raise money for children in need. The event includes a large dinner and silent auction at the notorious Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Spearfish, South Dakota.
This year we raised a total of $285,395 for LifeScape Children’s Care. LifeScape is a powerful and helpful non-profit organization that has empowered children and adults with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. Their center in Rapid City, South Dakota, has provided therapy and psychological services for children on an outpatient and outreach basis for numerous years. I am so proud to be a part of such an awesome organization that gives back.
The money Hamsters USA raised has provided physical, occupational and speech therapies and psychological services to children and adults all throughout western South Dakota and Wyoming.
This year the event on August 8th was extra special because we had the pleasure to meet four year-old James Habeck suffering from cerebral palsy. James and his family, proud ambassadors of LifeScape, lit up the room and showed an enormous amount of appreciation to Hamsters USA. They were elated to have the opportunity to directly thank us for contributing.
Because of the impact James and his family made on the Hamster members, a total of $36,950 was given in their honor. Melissa, James’ mother, has openly explained how LifeScape’s exceptional level of expertise and patience with kids has won their family over. She also said how thankful she was for the huge amount of emotional support she has received from LifeScape. She is positive and hopeful that, with the help of LifeScape, James will one day walk and talk again.
Speaking on behalf of the Hamsters USA, thank you LifeScape for bettering the lives of children and adults with disabilities. We hope to see this kind of fundraising success for the next upcoming years!
